Once you think Apple can’t do any worse with the iPhone they pull the curtains aside and unleash another angry dragon. I swear they have been reading the Microsoft playbook lately because I can not even put into words how astonished I am with their level of incompetence with the 2.x releases of the iPhone firmware (and any service related: me.com).

So my fun filled adventure started last night around 10pm… I have a first gen iPhone running the joke of a firmware 2.0.1. I plug my iPhone into my computer (which I have avoided like the plague because it takes hours, yes you read that right, HOURS to sync the damned thing).

1. Sync the iPhone and let it ‘backup’, go to sleep…
2. Wake up a few hours later… stupid thing still ‘backing up’, go to sleep
3. Wake up a little while later…. ok finally done syncing around 1am, hit UPGRADE!
4. Says it has 4mins to download the firmware, go to sleep…
5. Wake up around 4′30am, hot damn looks done let’s check it out!

Hmm, the iPhone has disappeared from iTunes device list, not a good sign. Unplug it and check the general settings, yup says it is running 2.0.2, let’s plug it back into the computer. And the ugly dragon appears…. “Set up your iphone” WWWWWWWHHHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAATTTTTTTTTTTTTTT?????????

Now I only have the choice of ‘Restoring from backup’ or ‘Setup as new device’. Holy rice batman, what the hell is wrong Apple, you just want me to waste hour upon hour upon hour restoring the device EVERY time I connect it????

I am so fed up with 2.x, I think I know my weekend project, wipe this damn thing and downgrade to 1.1.4 I just can’t take it anymore.
