‘08 Spring Detailing Prep
projects April 23rd, 2008
It’s that time of year again, the evil snow mounds have melted, the sun is shining, and it’s time to give the car some TLC!!
Lots of new products to use this year, was a lot of fun and a lot of hard long hours. Among the new toys was a wet dry vac, a flex 3401 polisher, a few new Zaino products ZPC, ZAIO, ZCS.
Last weekend I did a full interior details including carpets, leather cleaning and conditioning, dash, etc… I’m glad I didn’t try to squeeze the interior detail in together with the marathon 4 day exterior detail session. My batteries were just about spent come the end of the fourth day, lol.
This was my first time detailing an engine. I had always feared getting water somewhere I shouldn’t so I had always stayed away from the engine bay. Well I picked up some P21S Total Auto Wash and decided to conquer my fears. I have to say it came out great, and I didn’t ruin anything!
Next up was an exterior paint washing using the new Gilmour Foamaster with a dawn mixture. No this is not the normal auto car wash soap but this was in prep to do a full polish session so I needed to strip any remaining wax and start off fresh. Impressions about foam gun? I like it, I probably used less water but it took just as long if not longer to wash the car.
Next up was to clay the car. I hadn’t clayed the car for a long time and this past winter was brutal. This was by far the longest time I have ever spent claying a vehicle. I had some leftover claymagic from working on another vehicle, so I opted to use that up instead of cracking open a new Zaino z18 claybar. The claymagic bar was no where near the same quality as Zaino’s, that probably contributed to my longer than usual claying. I easily spent 2+ hours meticulously claying the car. Alright, claying done, time to dawn it again to get rid of all the clay residue.
